Cub Scouting works because families pitch in — but that doesn’t mean everyone has to become a den leader, attend every event, or spend every weekend camping.

You can start by just coming, cheering your Scout on, and helping them with their adventures.

What You Don't Need
Here are the myths about parent involvement in Scouting that we deliberately leave behind.
No Scouting Experience
Nobody expects you to know the songs, the knots, or what a Webelos is — you pick it up the same way your child does.
No Expensive Gear Upfront
Do not buy expensive tents, sleeping bags, or gear. Between the pack’s loaner equipment and our families’ spares, we can usually cover whatever you need.
No Outdoor Experience
You do not need outdoor or camping experience.
Light Volunteering
A Little Help from Everyone Keeps the Pack Going
If you never take on a bigger leadership role, that is a 100% valid way to spend 5 years here. We do encourage families to help out while they’re already at the meetings: lead an activity, help set up/clean up or simply have FUN with the kids.
